OB Questions…

These are the questions I asked my OB at our first appt:

If I experience bleeding or cramping, do I call you or your nurse? Yes call to setup an ultrasound

Will I need to change my habits regarding sex, exercise, nutrition? No sex until 12 weeks for sanity reasons and when exercising keep heart rate to under 140bpm

What activities, foods, substances (for example, medicine, caffeine and alternative sweeteners like Equal) should I avoid? Limit caffeine to 2x a day which I pretty much have given up, stick to regular sugar but if I need artificial go with splenda, limit shellfish, no sushi, stick with pasteurized cheeses and if I want cold cuts microwave them for 30 seconds prior to eating to kill any listeria

When will my next prenatal visit be scheduled? Next visit is on 11/15 which is the 12 week NT scan

What type of testing do you recommend and when are they to be done? NT Scan, Quad Screen and Anatomy Scan

Who gets them and when?

Flu shot – Yes but I am going to wait until after 12 weeks

Pertussis vaccine – Anyone who will be in contact with the baby and it can be done later in the pregnancy

1st OB Appointment…

was yesterday…It went really well…we met with my Dr. and he did an ultrasound to confirm the EDD…I was told by my RE to not let them change the date since we know exactly when we got pregnant but he still wanted to make sure that it was measuring on track which it was…he spent some time just pointing things out and he called it a “gummy bear” which is a cute nickname which I may adopt now, lol…the heartbeat was 165 and he asked if we were going to find out the sex which we are…I think he was hoping we wouldn’t for some strange reason but we are definitely going to find out…we are even going to have a 3D sono at around 16 weeks for gender determination…it will be our Christmas present…he checked to see if the sub chronic hematoma was there which it wasn’t thankfully but you can bleed sometimes for no reason in the 1st trimester…he also went over the do’s and dont’s…what to eat and not to eat which we were already following but he did say I could eat cold cuts…I should microwave them for 30 seconds when I bring them home and then put them in the fridge…that should kill any listeria that may be present…I am happy that I can eat a turkey sandwich every once in a while…we also setup the NT scan for 11/15 but I have to get preliminary bloodwork done on 11/5

Today I am 8 weeks pregnant!!!!

I wrote this last week but today I am officially 8 weeks 6 days pregnant…its kind of surreal that we have made it this far since the journey has been long…I wanted to track my pregnancy each week with questions that I will ask about how I am feeling…I hope to look back on them and smile…

How far along? 8 Weeks
Total weight gain: No weight gain
Maternity clothes? Still in my regular clothes but I do feel bloated
Stretch marks? None from the pregnancy
Sleep: Sleeping great and taking naps most days
Best moment this week: Graduated from the Reproductive Endocrinologist today and I feel like a regular pregnant woman
Miss Anything? Eating sushi!!!
Movement: None yet
Food cravings: Nothing really other than  a cheeseburger earlier in the week and french fries
Anything making you queasy or sick: Bacon and anything fishy
Gender Prediction: Boy but I am breaking out so it could be a girl
Have you started to show yet: I already started with a belly so not yet, lol
Symptoms: Heartburn, nausea and vomiting
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: Getting to our first OB appt!!!
I already have a belly so I dont think I will have true belly shots for some time…

How we got here…

So I wanted to start this pregnancy blog to track my journey…we first started to TTC over a year ago…I have PCOS so we new it was not going to be an easy road…we started with fertility treatments in August 2011 and it took us until September 2012 to finally conceive our first child…if you want to read more about our journey check out my Infertility/IVF journey in my blog: http://infertilitydoessuck.wordpress.com/… I could not believe I was pregnant but when you see these pics it makes it real:

Anyone who has gone thru infertility treatments know that just because you get a positive on a HPT it doesnt mean your out of the woods…we had to have 2 beta’s to make sure they were doubling which they did plus 3 ultrasounds to confirm that there was indeed a viable pregnancy…Here are our sonogram pictures…

Sonogram #1 – 5 weeks 5 days (gestational sac & yolk)

Sonogram #2 – 6 weeks 6 days & HB 121

Between sonogram #2 and #3 I had some bleeding with clotting and I was really scared that there was something wrong…we went to the Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE) and I had a subchronic hematoma (SCH) which caused the issue which was a relief…so by sonogram #3 the SCH had basically resolved which is good…

Sonogram #3 – 8 weeks & HB 155

You generally “graduate” from the RE by the time you have your 3rd ultrasound…we had heard the heart beat 3x already and you are discharged to your OB for the remainder of your pregnancy…you finally feel like you are normal pregnant woman…I still worry from time to time but I have to remember that there is nothing I can do at this point other than not worry myself too much…my first OB appt. is on 10/23!!!
